If you’ve been walking through the Northern Quarter over the last couple of days you will have noticed a big steel structure forming on Thomas Street with rumours have been flying around as to what it could be.
The strongest rumour emerging appears to be true, that the takeover is for Chanel’s world-famous Metiers D’Art showcase. The showcase is known around the world for compiling a collection that celebrates artisans and specialists which contribute to the fashion house.
Having travelled the world from New York to Tokyo, it’s the first time Chanel has done a show in England since 2009 and its arrival in the Northern Quarter celebrates Manchester’s bustling creative community, with the eyes of the world on the city.
Expect it to draw a-list celebrities over the next month as an exclusive guest list descends on the Northern Quarter. Last year’s event at the Senegalese capital of Dakar saw the likes of Pharrell Williams and Naomi Campbell take their seats on the front row inside Dakar’s former Palais de Justice.
The event has not been formally confirmed by the brand yet, but we do know it’s happening somewhere in Manchester on 7 December…. And the structure and road closures do give it away. Stay tuned for more details.
