It’s been a big week this week for Black Music with the Mobo Awards taking over Sheffield, so we’ve sifted through this week’s new music to pick out some gems that could power the party. From Little Simz to Bugzy, we’ve got five records you need to run this weekend.
First up, we have Little Simz who has had a great week by all accounts, picking up the Best Hip Hop Act award at the Mobos and topping it off with a new release. Definitely bringing the vibes this weekend, her new tune is Mood Swings.
North Manchester-born Bugzy Malone has released Ghetto Wisdom, a first-hand account of his life growing up in Manchester. From being raised watching the Mobo’s to winning Best Grime Act this week, what a transformation.
Shygirl and SG Lewis up next, when you see SG on a track, you just know its going to be an anthem. Mr useless is an infectious house tune perfectly complemented by Shygirl’s vocals, if this one doesn’t get you up for a night out in town, we don’t know what will.
Lau.ra, also known as FEMME, has released The Danger. Another one that will have you dancing around your kitchen all weekend long – make sure it’s on your playlist.
Finally, we have Ghetts who has collabed with Sampha to release Double Standards. For those that love this one, you don’t have far to travel see Sampha live next week, as he is playing on Thursday and Friday at our neighbours Factory International. Make sure you grab the last few remaining tickets whilst you still can.
