Over the last decade, the Abel Heywood has become a synonymous Northern Quarter boozer. Its quiz nights are up there with the best of them, and if you were to name the best pubs in the Northern Quarter to grab a crisp pint and a bite, the Abel Heywood would be top of the list along with the Bay Horse.
So, when they announced they were closing in February for a refurb, it piqued our interest, as this pub in many respects already had a lot to offer including a listing in TripAdvisor’s top 10 hotels in Manchester. Over the last six weeks, Hydes, the Salford-based brewery behind the Abel Heywood has pumped over £200K into bringing this pub up to date and it looks MEGA.
The Victorian-style décor has all had a facelift, there’s new signage, lighting, super comfy new booth seating and a host of other upgrades which make this pub and boutique hotel feel warm, welcoming and the perfect place to spend the day.
Behind the pumps, there’s all the beers you’d expect to see on-tap including some of Hyde’s own offerings. On the menu, tuck into your favourite pub classics, mouth-watering pies, awesome burgers and a load of other greatness including a decent Sunday Roast!
Top tip! Don’t miss their Monday night pub quiz, hosted by the Quizzlybears.
