Fenix rises to be one of Manchester’s most talked about restaurant openings this year

There is no doubt you will have seen news of Union’s new neighbour, Fenix, opening in the last few weeks. Hype across the city has been building over the last year in anticipation of the new Greek beach-themed restaurant.

Fenix is the creation by Drew and Alex Jones, who also own Tattu in Spinningfields. Fenix brings together two concepts that aren’t typically married together in high end dining and Greek food.

To gain the full experience, it is recommended customers visit all three phases the restaurant transitions through, throughout the day. Phase one is to relax in the afternoon sun with a dining experience to emulate daylight, then onto golden hour where the lights and atmosphere dims to reflect a serene Greek island and onto embracing the dark with a high-end dining feel, much like that in Tattu.

Spaces are booking up fast, with largely only bar seats available from now until the New Year. Fenix has already been visited by a whole host of big names including Molly-Mae, Ed Westwick, Gary Neville, and Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji to name a few.

The menu is extensive and will have you feeling like you’ve been transported to the Greek Isles. From classics on any Greek menu like pita, dips, and salads to more scarcely seen dishes like a 1kg stuffed robata seabass filled with spinach and mushrooms and Athenian tartare with caviar.

Not only does the food menu delight, but the cocktail menu is also something to behold. Separated into Earth, Fire, Water and Air sections, with each being designed, masterfully crafted, and inspired by ancient Greek mythology. Some highlights from each section are; Fire: Heracles’ Eight Trail (Signal Hill whiskey, vermouth rosso, watermelon oleo and lemon), Water: Sirens Call (Grey Goose vodka, blood orange, sweet tomato and toasted coral), Earth: Medusa’s Curse (Hepple gin, peach sherry, orange and lemon) and Air: River Sticks (Everleaf Mountain, Wavelength aperitif, pomegranate and London Essence soda).
