Doing stuff in Manchester can often have you feeling like you have holes in your pockets, but there are loads of free things to do in the city which don’t cost a pretty penny. Here are our top places to visit.

At the heart of the city centre on Mosley Street, Manchester Art Gallery is free to enter and is a great place to get immersed in history and culture with its constantly changing exhibitions. The current collection is ‘Stories of Women, Work and Uncertain Futures’ and can be seen during its 10am-5pm Tuesday – Sunday open times. Truly the perfect way to escape the rain on a budget.

Just round the corner from us, if you like experimenting and exploring, the Science and Industry Museum is for you. Open daily 10am-5pm, the downstairs is a mock up for an 1800’s warehouse, and upstairs is jam packed with exhibitions appealing to all ages, from defying the laws of gravity by lifting a Mini Cooper, to creating your own small tornado. This one is well worth the visit.

Fletcher Moss is a free day out in Manchester
