Lucy and Yak, the brand leading the charge on the revival of dungarees has opened its first Manchester store in the heart of the Northern Quarter, in the old site of Oklahoma. Oklahoma was a Manchester staple having been there for the last 25 years. Unfortunately, the store couldn’t withstand the tests of Covid and the cost of living crisis meaning it had to shut to focus on the online offering. Sad times with another Northern Quarter staple lost to the economy.
Its out with the old and in with the new on High Street with Lucy and Yak taking its place. Lucy and Yak is a sustainable clothing store first grabbing headlines by reviving the classic dungaree that are a staple in themselves across the Northern Quarter nowadays. The brand has recently been featured as number 72 in the Sunday Times 100 fastest growing companies.
The Barnsley-based brand has gained a reputation for being environmentally conscious, it uses organic material and recycled fabrics in its garments. On top of this it resuses its dead stock to create aprons, tote bags and tea towels, and ‘Re-Yak Packs’ are available for any budding upcyclists which are leftover prints from the factory where you can upcycle your own clothes.
The all-new, all-pink, studio will house a huge range of Lucy and Yak dungarees as well as other lines. Make sure you head down and show them some love, and expect the Northern Quarter dungaree population to explode over the coming months.
