Ed Sheeran revives a classic and Stormzy goes gospel, it’s your weekly music lowdown

It’s been a busy week in the world of music including Girls Aloud announcing a reunion tour to honour the late Sarah Harding including two Manchester dates. There’s also been loads of new music released across all genre so we’ve picked out five of the best.

Record label Mushroom has released a new compilation album called Mushroom: 50 Years of Making Noise (Reimagined). It compiles some of the best songs created by its artists in the last 50 years, reimagined by its current roster of talent. Undoubtedly the pick of the bunch is Ed Sheeran’s cover of Hunters & Collectors classic Throw Your Arms Around Me. A great cover that needs adding to your weekend listening.

The Snuts are back with their third release of 2023 called NPC. The high-energy Scottish indie four piece keep getting better and better with their releases, and NPC is definitely one you need to give a listen.

When you see Stormzy listed as a featured artist on a track it can go one of two ways, gritty grime or soulful gospel. Witness Me is definitely the latter, collaborating with Jacob Collier, Shawn Mendes and Kirk Franklin.

Next up we have Paloma Faith who has just released powerful tune Bad Woman. Definitely one to get on your playlist, and if you’re a fan you can hear her vocals live at Bridgewater Hall in April.

Headie One’s new tune with M1onTheBeat, Skinfade is a classic gritty grime tune from Headie, which if you’re into him and the grime scene you’ll love.
